Oskar Klein Meeting
D > 4 , t = 75

October 31, 1998 - November 1, 1998

We will have a meeting to celebrate the work of Oskar Klein. As an assistant professor at the University of Michigan 75 years ago he invented the idea that extra dimensions may be physically quite real, though smaller than ours, and that they could lead to the observed forces beyond gravity when looked at from our four-dimensional world. (This idea was studied independently by T. Kaluza and is now called Kaluza-Klein theory.) Klein's impact on physics is much broader -- the Klein-Gordon equation is still used daily, and his name is associated with several additional major accomplishments. The speakers will be L. Brink, K. Dienes, D. Gross, J. Harvey, T. D. Lee, J. Maldacena, M. Perry, J. Schwarz, F. Wilczek. The organizers are S. Deser and G. Kane. Anyone is welcome to attend.
